Students will have the opportunity to speak with RVC Academic Advisors and CIS Faculty, as well as, Faculty and Admissions Representatives from Rockford University and NIU. Students will also hear about careers in the IT eld from an RVC alumnus.

Rock Valley College CIS (Computers & Information Systems) is partnering up with Barnes & Noble CherryVale Mall for a "Collaborate & Code"  to celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset.

Join the fun on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Barnes & Noble in CherryVale Mall, 7200 Harrison Ave, Rockford, IL 61112.

If you’re a tech enthusiast, crafter, educator, tinkerer, hobbyist, engineer, science club member, author, artist, student, entrepreneur, or maker of any kind—join the Barnes & Noble "Collaborate & Code"! Learn from each other, hear from the experts, and work on projects. 

Chuck Konkol, Rock Valley College CIS (Computers & Information Systems) Faculty, will lead sessions in coding with robots, the minute of code, and telepresence with "DESTIR the Robot"! Featuring: LittleBits, Lego, Magformers, Ozobots, DESTIR, KUBI, and more!

Event is free and open to the public.

Interested in Technology? Come to HackNights

HackNights are a time set aside for anyone generally interested in technology to gather and hack. Everyone is free to work on projects or homework, mingle with fellow students, and even just hang out. Beginners and experts alike are welcome to join in—there will be experienced students in the room specifically to help beginners learn more about coding and provide pointers on all type of technology driven projects.

Some meetings have a 10 minute demo of a project that members are working on.

We meet every 4th Wednesday evening (while classes are in session) from 6:00 to around 7:00pm in WTC 2260. FREE PIZZA PROVIDED!Feel free to come for as long or as short as you want.

The "Hour of Code" will be offered at our downtown location for the Spring 2017 semester! The FREE workshops will take place the 1st Wednesday of the month starting Wednesday, February 1st through Wednesday, May 3rd.

The downtown location is located in the RRSTAR building at 99 East State Street.

The CIS Division of Rock Valley College promotes the “Hour of Code” all year long.

The "Hour of Code" is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. One-hour tutorials are available in over 40 languages. No experience needed. Ages 4 to 104.
